What We Do
Below are activities that the Booster Club is involved in to promote and support the team. These activities require the help of parents as well as team members in order to have a successful program. A Booster Club meeting is held at the beginning of the season whereby the volunteer roles below are assigned. Throughout the season volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways. If interested in volunteering, please contact the Booster Club President. See above for contact information.
Membership:
Two to three people are needed to solicit Booster Club membership. This is a vital resource for providing additional funds for the program. Membership monies provide funding that is not covered by the school district.
Fundraising:
Two people are needed to research and execute the means for raising funds in addition to club membership. A variety of creative avenues can be explored in this process. Past fundraisers have included business sponsorships, team posters, Laker Track clothing, and a 'Wish List' campaign during Parents Night. (The 'Wish List' consists of items specified by the coaches that are needed for the season. Parents are asked to sponsor items on the list.)
Basketball Tournament Fundraising - Twice a year, one person is needed to organize volunteers to help out at the 'Lakeside Basketball Tournament'. This tournament enables athletes and parents to raise money for the team. Volunteers man the entry table as well as the snack table/concession stand. A percentage of the proceeds go to the team.
Uniform Distribution:
Two people are needed to manage the distribution of uniforms to student athletes. This includes soliciting volunteers to help with the following: inventory management, uniform storage and organization, uniform distribution at the beginning of the season, uniform retrieval at the end of the season, and record keeping of all items checked out to athletes. Ideal commitment is 2+ years.
Home Meets:
One person is needed to solicit, coordinate, and train volunteers to help during home meets. This requires working with the head coach to determine volunteer needs. For example, volunteers are generally needed for the relay races, setting up and tearing down the field, race timing, and field event assistance.
Website Maintenance:
One person is needed to manage the Track website. This includes but is not limited to the following: updating the meet schedule, posting photos, updating results, and adding news articles. This person must be proficient in website design. Ideal commitment is 2+ years.
Parents Night:
One to two people are needed at the beginning of the season to plan Parents Night. Duties would include the following: setting up the meeting area, soliciting volunteers to setup as well as clean-up the refreshment table, and working with the head coach to secure any visual aid equipment that may be needed for the meeting.
Awards Night:
Two people are needed to plan and host an award ceremony/event at the end of the season. Duties would include the following: helping coaches prepare the awards, setting up the meeting area and securing visual aid equipment for the coaches, soliciting volunteers to setup as well as clean-up the refreshment table, and working with team leaders to pass on award night traditions.
