Three Rivers League District Championships, at Clackamas H.S., 5.16.08
The LO girls had outstanding performances on the hottest day of the year as they won the TRL District Championships at Clackamas High School on Friday, 5.16.08. It was the first District title for the Laker girls in over 15 years. Coach Eric Lider was also honored as "coach of the year."
After a review of the final scoring, the Laker boys placed third. Immediately following the meet, it had been announced that the Lakers were second, but there had been some confusion with the scoring.
It was a great "team" effort for both squads as the Lakers won titles in the girls' 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays, 100, 200, 400 and 1500 meters. Second place finishes in the 200, 800 and 3000 added valuable points, while other needed points were earned in many events by other Lakers.
The boys won the 800, 1500, 110 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles and 4 x 400 relay, with seconds in both Hurdles events and the 4 x 100 relay. They also gained valuable points in many other events.
Final Day Highlights
- James Ratliff won both hurdles events (110 Highs and 300 IMs) in 14.86 (hand timed and converted to 15.14 c) and 39.09, respectively. Both were personal bests. He also ran on the winning 4 x 400 relay and the the second place 4 x 100 relay
- Jacqui Wallis won the 200 meters (26.19), 400 meters (58.46) and ran on both winning relays.
- Elijah Greer won the 1500 and 800 meter events and anchored the winning 4 x 400 relay
- Kate Mogentale won the 100 meters (13.12), placed second in the 200 (26.38) and ran on both winning relays
- Tate Murray won the girls' 1500 meters (4:58.83), took second in the 800 (2:20.07) and ran on the winning 4 x 400 relay
- Micah Hatfield placed second in the High Hurdles in a hand-timed 14.93 (15.24 c), and second in the 300 IMs (39.71) also a personal best. He also ran on both State-qualifying relays.
- Morgan McGuire placed second and qualifed for State with a Pole Vault of 9'6"
- Girls 4 x 100 Relay won (Madison Keele, Wallis, Mogentale, Cali Reis) in 49.74
- Girls 4 x 400 Relaly won (Mogentale, Murray, Aly Steinbacher, Wallis) in 4:03.81
- Boys 4 x 400 won in school record 3:22.21 (Belesiu, Hatfield, Ratliff, Greer)
- Boys 4 x 100 Relay was second and qualified for State with time of 43.92 (Belesiu, Hatfield, Ratliff, Chris Leutjen)

The weather skipped spring as hot weather greeted the Lakers on the first day of the District meet. The Laker girls started well, scoring in three of the four finals and qualifying athletes for Friday's finals. The boys scored in the 3,000 and Pole Vault finals.
Highlights:
- Curtis Houghton qualified for the State meet by clearing 14'0" (4th), which met the qualifying standard
- Lauren Ohlson placed second in the 3000 meters (8 points) to qualify for State with a time of 11:04.44.
- Shelley Chestler added 5 points by placing 4th in the 3000 (11:17.72)
- Shannon Reader placed 5th in the Shot Put (32'01") for 4 points
- Chris Caldwell ran 9:25.9 to place 6th in the 3000 (3 points)
- Madison Keele placed 6th in the Long Jump (15'2.5") for 3 points
- Victor Otto cleared a personal best of 11'6" in the Pole Vault for 8th place and an unexpected pointÂ
- Melanie Overall threw the Javelin 102'3" for 8th place and one point
